The Test of Childhood Stuttering (TOCS) provides clinicians and researchers with a sound method for assessing speech fluency skills and stuttering-related behaviors in children 4 through 12 years of age. Its main purposes are to identify children who stutter, determine the severity of a child's stuttering, and document changes in a child's fluency functioning over time.
The TOCS Observational Scales (pkg 25) are used during the Observational Rating Scales component. The Observational Scales include the Speech Fluency Rating Scale and the Disfluency-Related Consequences Rating Scale - these enable the examiner to gather information about stuttering and related behaviors from parents, teachers, and other individuals who have known the child for an extended period of time.
