The Gilliam Asperger’s Disorder Scale (GADS) can be used to distinguish Asperger Disorder from Autistic Disorder. It provides documentation about the essential behaviour characteristics necessary for diagnosis and can be used to document behavioural progress, to target goals for Individualized Education Programs (IEP), and for research purposes.

The GADS can be completed by a parent or professional (at school or at home) - someone with ample opportunity to observe the child.
