From Birth to Five Years 2nd ed. is a unique guide to children's developmental progress.
Based on Mary Sheridan's pioneering work, the main section consists of illustrated charts that cover each stage of development in young children, in chronological order.
These charts are divided into four key areas:
- Posture and large movements
- Vision and fine movements
- Hearing and speech
- Social behaviour and play.
The charts are used to recognise both the abilities and the needs of children in relation to development. It is important to appreciate the range of normal development in order to identify developmental differences and to permit early intervention, especially in children with special needs.
From Birth to Five Years 2nd ed. also looks at the patterns of development, which are important for understanding developmental differences, and provides age-appropriate checks for identifying disorders.
