The Devereux Students Strengths Assessment-Mini (DESSA-Mini) is a series of four, equivalent, 8-item behaviour rating scales accompanied by an innovative Ongoing Progress Monitoring Form. The DESSA-mini, like the DESSA, can be completed by teachers or staff at schools and child agencies including after-school, social and mental health services.

Designed for use with children kindergarten through year eight, each of the four, 8 item DESSA-Mini forms are strength based and comprised of items taken from the various scales found on the full-length DESSA.

The DESSA-Mini provides a single score, the Social-Emotional Total (SET) score, which provides an indication of the strength of the child’s social-emotional competence.

The On-Going Progress Monitoring Form is used to record a child’s progress over time. This forms allows the use to record changes in the Social-Emotional Total (SET) scores, and provides space for documenting descriptive information regarding progress. This information is critically helpful in documenting outcomes and planning for on-going supports for the child.

Used together, the DESSA and DESSA-mini is a comprehensive system that supports universal screening, assessment, intervention planning, progress monitoring, and outcome evaluation in the social-emotional domain. It has been designed specifically to help schools meet emerging social-emotional learning standards.

DESSA/DESSA Mini Online- A Comprehensive Assessment & Intervention System

Online administration, scoring and reporting is available for the DESSA & DESSA-Mini, with access to PDF copies of the Manuals. Also included in the web based platform are access to intervention strategies that can be implemented.

The online platform offers a balanced approach of individual, group and whole school level reports to help promote the healthy social-emotional development of all students.
