The Conners' Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARS) measures the presence and severity of ADHD symptoms in adults 18 years and over, and assists clinicians to determine whether or not ADHD is a contributing factor to a client's difficulties. The CAARS scales quantitatively measure ADHD symptoms across clinically significant domains, while examining the manifestations of those symptoms.

The CAARS consists of a self-report (client) form (CAARS-S) and an observer (family/peer/supervisory) form (CAARS-O). Both forms have a long, short and screening version available. Both address the same behaviours and contain identical scales, subscales, and indices.

The CAARS-S Long Quickscore Form contains scales that assess a broad range of problem behaviours.

It includes 66 items with 9 subscales, 3 DSM-IV ADHD symptom measures, a 12-item ADHD Index and Inconsistency Index.

The Factor-Derived Subscales include:

  • Inattention/Memory Problems *Hyperactivity/Restlessness
  • Impulsivity/Emotional Lability
  • Problems with Self-Concept

The DSM-IV ADHD Symptom Subscales include:

  • Inattentive Symptoms
  • Hyperactive-Impulsive Symptoms
  • Total ADHD Symptoms
