Beyond the Classroom calls for new models of schooling that recognise that the future of young people is the responsibility of the whole community.
The book is based on the findings of research carried out by the Education Foundation (now in alliance with the Foundation for Young Australians). The message that emerges from the research is that tinkering around the edges of schooling will not provide solutions to the widening gaps in education that limit opportunities for many young Australians. Proposed models should form the basis of a new social alliance across school systems enabling all young people to take an active-if not leading-role in that community, beyond the school gates.
