Assertiveness is a program of ten one-hour lessons in which students in the middle years of school will learn when and how to choose an assertive behaviour option.
This behaviour management program focuses on emotional literacy as a way of raising students' awareness of their feelings and how to develop confidence and a positive attitude about themselves.
Each assertiveness lesson outlines its aims, method and resources required, along with suggested timings. The ideas and activities contained in each lesson are skills-based, interactive and fun. The program offers teachers flexibility in conducting an emotional literacy class, as well as information and photocopiable resource material.
Topics covered include:
- Considering your personal rights
- Body language
- How to ask for what you want
- How to express your feelings effectively
