Significant developments in teacher evaluation have taken place conceptually, contextually and operationally from the time the Australian Council for Educational Research published Teacher Appraisal: Issues and Approaches.
It includes:
- Actual case studies of appraisal schemes used in our schools
- Teacher pay systems
- Advanced skills teaching
- The duties-based approach to teacher evaluation
- The place of evaluation in education reform.
Valuing Teachers' Work consists of three sections:
Section One outlines models of evaluation and appraisal that currently provide a challenge for policy makers and practitioners in the field.
Section Two looks at the context in which national and state policies on teacher assessment are being shaped.
Section Three presents a series of case studies to indicate how particular schools are responding and contributing to the changing agenda on teacher review and development.
