The ACER Progressive Achievement Tests in Mathematics Third Edition (PATMaths Third Edition) is a thoroughly revised and updated edition of ACER’s best selling test of achievement in mathematics.

PATMaths Third Edition is designed for use in Australian schools to provide objective, norm-referenced information to teachers about the level of achievement attained by their students in the skills and understanding of mathematics.

Building on the strengths of the previous edition, PATMaths Third Edition introduces a number of significant new features, including:

• Extended year level range – tests now available for Years 2 to 10 in VIC, NSW, ACT and TAS and for Years 3 to 11 for QLD, NT, SA and WA
• Up-to-date norms – collected in November 2004 from an Australia-wide sample of 12 000 students
• A common achievement scale for all eight tests giving teachers the flexibility to match test level to student ability and measure growth over time
• Descriptions of the types of maths skills mastered, and those still to be developed based on test performance
• Estimates of curriculum outcome levels for each State and Territory based on test performance
• Comprehensive tables showing the location of all test questions in comparison to State and Territory curriculum outcomes
• An overview of the student’s strengths and weaknesses in each curriculum content strand
• Expanded range of individual and group reporting options for both hand-scored and machine-scored tests
• A CD-ROM containing copy masters of administration instructions, score keys and reports

Year Level Ranges
The eight new PAT Maths Third Edition tests are recommended for the following year level ranges:

• Test Booklet A: Years 2-3 (NSW, VIC, ACT and TAS) or Years 3-4 (WA, NT, SA and QLD)
• Test Booklet 1: Years 3-4 (NSW, VIC, ACT and TAS) or Year 4-5 (WA, NT, SA and QLD)
• Test Booklet 2: Years 3-5 (NSW, VIC, ACT and TAS) or Year 4-6 (WA, NT, SA and QLD)
• Test Booklet 3: Years 4-6 (NSW, VIC, ACT and TAS) or Year 5-7 (WA, NT, SA and QLD)
• Test Booklet 4: Years 5-7 (NSW, VIC, ACT and TAS) or Year 6-8 (WA, NT, SA and QLD)
• Test Booklet 5: Years 6-8 (NSW, VIC, ACT and TAS) or Year 7-9 (WA, NT, SA and QLD)
• Test Booklet 6: Years 7-9 (NSW, VIC, ACT and TAS) or Year 8-10 (WA, NT, SA and QLD
